Safety

Safety is embedded in all we do. We act safely in our operations because our team members, communities, and customers matter to us. We are committed to everyone returning home safely, every day, while providing safe and reliable energy to our nation.

Building Our Safety Culture
Safety is a core value at KS Energy. Our team members learn about safety on day one during extensive training and onboarding, and it is a way of life every day after that. We hold daily JSAs, receive weekly Toolbox Talks, and participate in bi-weekly safety meetings with leaders, so team members are up to date with safety measures across our footprint.

We empower our team members to ask questions and stop work if necessary to keep our people and the public safe. On every job site, we invest in field audits and inspections to ensure our work is completed in the safest way possible. Before every job, team members receive their own Make It Safe card to remind them of their unwavering commitment to safety.

At KS Energy, safety is all about family. We want our employees to go home the same way they arrived each day. Our team members work safe every day so they can go home to their What I Live For reasons, and our safety culture fosters that environment.

All safety topics — procedures, high-level learnings, good catches, and near miss stories — are available on a variety of media platforms to meet our employees where they are, including the company YouTube channel, email, and the internal employee engagement platform called KSE Connect. We recognize good safety behavior through our Good Catch and Near Miss programs, and when there is an incident, we openly talk about it and share best practices to prevent it from happening again.

Staying Safe on the Road
Vehicle safety is a priority to keep our employees and the public safe. We are proud that our Preventable Motor Vehicle Accident (PMVI) is lower than the industry standard, and we continue to invest in dash cams and a telematics program to proactively create safe driving habits and prevent or reduce automobile accidents.

Environment

We strongly believe in the stewardship of our natural environment, and it is our responsibility to protect and preserve it for generations to come. This is why we provide solutions that accelerate the reduction of methane and carbon emissions while enabling more sustainable processes for delivering essential utilities to our communities.

Minimizing Our Impact
Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is critical to prevent, manage, and remedy adverse environmental impacts during our construction process, and it allows us to deliver sustainable, reliable services to our customers while protecting the environment. In partnership with the environmental manager, using the EMS is an important step in the process for every job we do.

We also ensure employees stay informed and engaged with our sustainability efforts. Through a monthly newsletter, we highlight key environmental excellence and recognition, bring awareness to issues in the industry, and provide guidance to address those issues.

Driving Emissions Reduction
Continuous improvement is integral to our business, and it extends to our commitment to reducing our environmental impact every year. Given our fleet of vehicles and equipment, we focus on reducing emissions by lowering vehicle idle times, optimizing our routes, and exploring fuel alternatives.

Investing in Innovation & New Opportunities
We partner with our sister companies, Hydro-X II and Versiv Solutions, to offer innovative solutions to customers on our projects. Hydro excavating solutions from Hydro-X II use various soft dig techniques to minimize the potential for pipeline dig-in damages. Learn more about Hydro-X II here

Cross compression is a process by which natural gas is compressed and recycled back into the pipeline as an alternative to venting, flaring, or blowdown during pipeline maintenance, repairs, and installation. We partner with Versiv Solutions to help mitigate methane emissions and minimize community impact when repairing pipelines. Learn more here.

From our headquarters to other regional locations, we are proud supporters of numerous community outreach organizations that give back to the communities where we live, work, and play. We also support the Distribution Contractors Association (DCA) scholarship opportunities for children of employees.

We have a robust Business Code of Conduct program, so our employees and anyone we work with follow the same uncompromising approach to ethics and compliance.

Protecting Data Security & Privacy
Given our extensive work with our customers and the communities they serve, we understand the importance of maintaining high standards when it comes to protecting our digital assets and theirs. Our cybersecurity program is threat intelligence-driven, and our security team continuously monitors the threat landscape to understand new and emerging vulnerabilities, cyber threats, and threat actors to ensure our cyber controls and safeguards remain effective.
